Katalox, or Mexican Ebony, is one of the strongest woods within the world. It has a beautiful dark brown or purple heartwood with a stunning light brown sapwood contrast, making each katalox piece unique. Some pieces, like this one, have dots displaying in the sapwood. These were made by insects which sadly killed the tree, but adds to the distinction of the crochet hooks to appear similar to birthmarks.
